“For me this (Fabergé eggs) is not an investment project. In life anything can happen, and it will be hard to part with these objects”, declared Victor Vekselberg in an interview he gave to the journal Vedomsti (official organ of the Gosduma). During the five years since the sale the Forbes collection, Victor Vekselberg’s Foundation “The Link of Times” has collected through the whole world a large quantity of Russian decorative art objects which were lost at different periods, and which on the whole are no less valuable than the Fabergé collection. “There exists no other similar collection in the world. Soon there will be an exhibition devoted to the five-years anniversary of the “Link of Times” and you will all see it, promised the businessman – we are speaking about the Russian decorative arts artifacts. Not many people collect it but it illustrates history. The collection comprises several Imperial objects, including several Fabergé’s and many religious pieces”.
Vekselberg’s collection is worth several hundred millions of dollars. “It is of course impossible to value such objects on their materialistic cost, but this second part of the collection is higher than what was spent to buy the Fabergé collection from the Forbes family.” The “Link of Times” Foundation is planning to open its own museum, but for the time being the collection is kept in London, Switzerland and the main part in Moscow. Vekselberg does not keep anything in his home: “I would feel uncomfortable if I would drink tea from a glass in a glassholder that was used by Nicholas II”.
